2.6 Grammar: Sentence Structure

In this session:

  • You will learn  the basic sentence structure in Persian language.
  • You will learn how to make a negative sentence in Persian Language.
  • You will learn vocabulary related to professions.
  • You will learn ask and answer questions regarding professions.

Driver راننده Doctor دکتر

Please complete the sentence by writing the name of the profession.

Simple Sentence Structure:

Unlike English, the standard word order of Persian language is: Subject-Object-Verb.

Here you see the structure and can compare it with English Sentence structure:

Persian positive sentence structure
Verb Object Subject pronoun
English translation I A Student am
Persian هَستَم دانشجو من
English positive sentence structure
Subject pronoun Verb Object
English I Am a student.

Negative sentence structure:

In order to make a negative sentence, we have to add نto the beginning of the verb:

  Positive verb Negative verb
Persian هستم نیستم
English am am not
Persian negative sentence structure
Verb Object Subject pronoun
English translation I A Student am not
Persian من دانشجو نیستم
English negative sentence structure
Subject pronoun Verb Object
English I am not a student.

NOTE: Remember your verb endings always matches with your pronouns.
