Structure of the course
This book is adapted from the College physics by OpenStax for the PHY231c course in MSU. Each chapter presents concepts and problem solving techniques to be worked weekly.
Every week students should read the assigned chapter and work on the homework assignment in LONCAPA. 3 times in the semester there will be special homework sets with problems similar to those that will be in the exam to be submitted via gradescope.
The schedule of the course follows the structure below
Week 1 Introduction: The Nature of Science and Physics
Week 2 Kinematics
Week 3 Two-Dimensional Kinematics
Week 4 Dynamics: Force and Newton’s Laws of Motion and Applications: Friction, Drag, and Elasticity
Week 5 Uniform Circular Motion and Gravitation
Week 6 Work, Energy, and Energy Resources
Week 7 Linear Momentum and Collisions
Week 8 Statics and Torque
Week 9 Fall break and Rotational Motion and Angular Momentum
Week 10 Fluid Statics
Week 11 Fluid Dynamics and Its Biological and Medical Applications
Week 12 Temperature, Kinetic Theory, and the Gas Laws
Week 13 Heat and Heat Transfer Methods
Week 14 Thermodynamics
