Grammar Points Summary
The verb ចង់​ “want” in Khmer Similar to the English language, the term ចង់ is employed to denote necessity. It is followed by the infinitive to, but ចង់បាន is substituted for ចង់ when it is followed by a noun.

Compare:

  • ខ្ញុំចង់រៀនភាសាខ្មែរ។ “I want to learn Khmer.”
  • ខ្ញុំចង់បានសៀវភៅភាសាខ្មែរ។​ “I want a Khmer language book.”
The usage of the word សម្រាប់ and ឲ្យ “for” We use the word សម្រាប់ “for” to talk about a purpose or a reason for something. However, the word សម្រាប់​ is substituted with the word ឲ្យ when introducing the person or people receiving something.

Compare:

ខ្ញុំទិញខោអាវមួយកំផ្លេនេះសម្រាប់ធ្វើការ។ “I bought this set of clothes for work.”

នាងទិញខោអាវមួយកំផ្លេឲ្យប្តីរបស់ខ្ញុំ។ “She bought a set of clothes for her husband.”
