The Usage of the Word សម្រាប់ and ឲ្យ “for”

We use the word សម្រាប់ “for” to talk about a purpose or a reason for something. However, the word សម្រាប់ is substituted with the word ឲ្យ when introducing the person or people receiving something.  

Compare

  • ខ្ញុំទិញខោអាវមួយកំផ្លេ[1]នេះសម្រាប់ធ្វើការ។ “I bought this set of clothes for work.”
  • នាងទិញខោអាវមួយកំផ្លេឲ្យប្តីរបស់នាង។ “She bought a set of clothes for her husband.”
