6.3 At a Pharmacy
The Verb ត្រូវ “need” in Khmer
Similar to the English language, the term ត្រូវ is employed to denote necessity. It is followed by the infinitive to, but ត្រូវការ is substituted for ត្រូវ when it is followed by a noun.
Compare
ខ្ញុំត្រូវទៅសាលារៀន។ “I need to go to school.”
ខ្ញុំត្រូវការគ្រូបង្រៀន។ “I need a teacher.”
1. Pre-reading
Listen and describe the symptoms or illness of the women on the right. Transcript of the video.
2. Reading
Read the sentences of the conversation between a pharmacist and a patient. Put the statements of the pharmacist on the left column and the statements of the patient on the right column.
