10.4 Signing a Contract

Relative Pronouns in Khmer
Similar to English, relative pronouns in Khmer are used to introduce relative clauses. Relative clauses tell us more about people and things.
Examples
- លោកសុខា ដែលមានអាយុ៧៦ឆ្នាំបានចូលនិវត្តន៍។ “Mr. Sokha, who is 76, has retired.”
- នេះជាផ្ទះ ដែលឪពុកខ្ញុំបានសង់។ “This is the house, which my father built.”
Unlike English, the Khmer relative pronoun ដែល can mean not only “who,” “which,” and “that,” but also “where” in some contexts.
Examples
- សាលាដែលយើងរៀនមានបណ្ណាល័យធំមួយ។ “The school where we study has a big library.”
