Working with Obligative Verbs
Reading Activity 1
Please read and write these sentences:
- నేను కాఫీ తాగాలి.
- ఆమె చాలా హోం వర్క్ చేయాలి.
- వాడు ఈ వీకెండ్ ఇంటికి వెళ్ళాలి.
- ఆయన రేపు క్లాస్ లో పాఠం చెప్పాలి.
- వాళ్ళు ఈ సాయంత్రం క్రికెట్ ఆడాలి.
- మీరు పొద్దున్న లేవాలి.
- రవి స్నేహితులకు ఉత్తరాలు రాయాలి.
- ఆవిడ ఈ పండగకి కుటుంబంతో వుండాలి.
- రాత్రి అతను త్వరగా పడుకోవాలి.
- నేనూ, రవీ ఈ సాయంత్రం లైబ్రరీలో కలవాలి.
Obligative verbs are about things one must do. Usually this is still a future tense form, but the above acts become obligations by adding ఆలి to an infinitive verb.
For instance:
తాగ + ఆలి = తాగాలి.
చేయ + ఆలి = చేయాలి.
Please focus on each sentence from the above examples. You’ll also notice that there’s no subject and verb agreement which is a common form of any sentence construction in Telugu.

Please record a conversation with a classmate or friend about the things you both must do this week, asking each other five questions.

సిరి: హెలో, రవీ, ఈ వీకెండ్ నువ్వు ఏం చేస్తావు?
రవి: చాలా హోం వర్క్ వుంది. అంతా చేయాలి. నువ్వు?!
సిరి: నేను south Asia క్లాస్ కోసం 50 పేజీలు చదవాలి.
రవి: ఓహ్! అది చాలా ఎక్కువ కదా?!
సిరి: అవును, కానీ, కొన్ని సార్లు అంటే వీకెండ్ 75 పేజీల పైనే చదవాలి. నీకు రీడింగ్స్ వున్నాయా?
రవి: వున్నాయి, కానీ, ఎక్కువ లేవు. ఈ వీకెండ్ నువ్వు ఇంకా ఏమేం చేయాలి?
సిరి: ఈ వీకెండ్ అమ్మమ్మతో మాట్లాడాలి. అలాగే, హైదరాబాద్ లో ఇద్దరు స్నేహితులతో జూమ్ లో కలవాలి.
రవి: అవునా?! బాగుంది.
