1.4 Secondary Symbols of the Vowels

Since the secondary symbols are key in the Telugu language, we need to spend more time and patience working on them! Pay attention to the shape of every secondary symbol and the way they change the shape of the primary letters.

We have secondary symbols for each letter in Telugu. Most consonants have the check mark which is called talakattu in Telugu. For instance: క, గ, చ, త. In such a case, the secondary symbol of అ as a check mark ✔ is already there for those letters.

If you want to pronounce kaa, then we need the secondary symbol of ఆ. The secondary symbol of ఆ is ా-: the circle being the primary letter and the loop being the symbol. With the secondary symbol of ఆ, we write కా “kaa”, చా “chaa”.

As each vowel has a secondary symbol, we need to be careful when following their utterances and then write.
