4.6 Postpositions
English has a class of words called “prepositions.” Prepositions are the words that precede a phrase and indicate a relationship between the phrase and another word in the sentence. Punjabi has a similar class of words known as “postpositions.” As the name implies, postpositions come after the word they modify. In other respects, however, they are very similar to prepositions in English.
Simple Postpositions
Simple postpositions consist of a single word.

Compound Postpositions
Punjabi has many compound postpositions as well. Compound postpositions consist of two or more words. Most compound postpositions begin with the postposition ਦੇ, ਦੀ, or ਤੋਂ.
