Chapter 7.5: Bangla Postpositions
As with case endings or case markers, Bangla postpositions function like prepositions in English. They come after a noun or pronoun. A postposition establishes the noun or pronoun’s relationship with other words in the sentence.
Case endings (e.g, -কে, তে, -এ, -য়, -র) are like suffixes that remain attached to the noun or pronoun, while postpositions are words or phrases (e.g., থেকে, জন্যে, ভিতর দিয়ে etc.) that sit after a noun or pronoun.
- For many postpositions, a possessive case marker is attached with the noun or pronoun, e.g. আমার চেয়ে.
- For some postpositions, an objective case marker is attached with the noun or pronoun (if that is human noun or pronoun), e.g. আমাকে নিয়ে.
- For some postpositions, there is no need to attach any case markers with the noun or pronoun, e.g. আমি ছাড়া.
