Months
The Bangla calendar is 594 years behind the Gregorian calendar. The “Bangla New Year”, called পয়লা বৈশাখ, usually starts on 14th or 15th April on the English calendar. Now-a-days, the Bangla calendar is mainly used for religious observances, festivals, and agricultural seasons. Many Bengalis, especially in rural areas, celebrate birthday and anniversaries following the Bangla calendar.
The calendar has 12 months:

Seasons
There are six seasons in the Bangla calendar. Each seasons lasts for about two months. মরসুম or ঋতু are Bangla words for “seasons”.
The word কাল denotes time. It is used when we refer to season like শীতকাল, বর্ষাকাল, etc.

Three of the seasons are most distinguishable: গরমকাল “summer”, বর্ষাকাল “rainy season”, and শীতকাল “winter”.
However, শরৎকাল “autumn”, হেমন্তকাল “late autumn”, and বসন্তকাল “spring” are not so prominent in recent years.
