There are various ways to express likes and dislikes in Bangla.
1. ভালোবাসা
The Bangla verb ভালোবাসা, which literally means “to love,” is commonly used to express likes and dislikes. It is conjugated according to the subject. না is added to make the sentence negative.

| আমি ফল ভালোবাসি না | I do not love fruit. |
| ও ফল ভালোবাসে | He loves fruit. |
| ও ফল ভালোবাসে না | She does not love fruit. |
| উনি ফল ভালোবাসেন | She (honorific) loves fruit. |
| উনি ফল ভালোবাসেন না | He (honorific) does not love fruit. |
2. পছন্দ করা
Another verb, পছন্দ করা, meaning “like” is used to express likes and dislikes. Like the previous one, it is also conjugated according to the subject and না is added to it to make it negative.
The negative form of this verb is used by native speakers often to express strong dislike.

| ও মাছ পছন্দ করে | He likes fish. |

3. প্রিয়
প্রিয়, which literally means “favorite,” is used to express likes and dislikes. It is an adjective or describing word. The negative of the “be” verb হয় is used to make the sentence negative and that is conjugated according to the subject. However, due to analogical formation, না is used for all subjects by most people.

4. ভালো লাগা
The verb ভালো লাগা is probably the most common verb used by native speakers to express likes and dislikes. However, this verb is used in passive sentences only. The possessive case marker is added to the subject. না is added to make such sentences negative.

| আমার ফল ভালো লাগে না | I do not like fruit. |
| ওর ফল ভালো লাগে না | He does not like fruit. |
| ওনার ফল ভালো লাগে না | She (honorific) does not like fruit. |
| তোমার কি ফল ভালো লাগে না? | Don’t you like fruit? |
