This is an easy and useful structure that helps the learner to create meaningful sentences in Bangla.
Positive Possessive Present Tense Sentences
Note 1: The verb আছে expresses possession in present tense. Irrespective of the subject, the verb আছে remains unchanged and the possessive case marker is added to the subject.
The following sentences express possession in present tense.

| তোমার একটা কুকুর আছে | You have a dog. |
| ওর বাংলা বই আছে | She has a Bangla book. |
| আমাদের সময় আছে | We have time. |
| ওদের বাড়ি আছে | They have houses. |
| আমার বন্ধুর গাড়ি আছে | My friend has a car. |
| সানির নতুন জুতো আছে | Sunny has new shoes. |
| তার বন্ধুদের টাকা আছে | His friends have money. |
| আপনাদের কি সময় আছে? | Do you (plural) have time? |
Negative Possessive Present Tense Sentences
Note 2: To make these sentences negative, নেই is used.

| ওর বাংলা বই নেই | She does not have a Bangla book. |
| আমাদের সময় নেই | We don’t have time. |
| ওদের বাড়ি নেই | They don’t have houses. |
| আমার বন্ধুর গাড়ি নেই | My friend does not have a car. |
| সানির নতুন জুতো নেই | Sunny does not have new shoes. |
| তার বন্ধুর টাকা নেই | His friend doesn’t have money. |
| আপনাদের কি সময় নেই? | Don’t you (plural) have time? |
Positive & Negative Possessive Past Tense Sentences
Note 3: ছিল is used the to express possession in past and ছিল না is used to make the sentence negative.

| ওর বাংলা বই ছিল না | She didn’t have a Bangla book. |

| আমাদের সময় ছিল না | We didn’t have time. |
| ওদের বাড়ি ছিল | They had houses. |
| ওদের বাড়ি ছিল না | They didn’t have houses. |
| আমার বন্ধুর গাড়ি ছিল | My friend had a car. |
| আমার বন্ধুর গাড়ি ছিল না | My friend didn’t have a car. |
| সানির নতুন জুতো ছিল | Sunny had new shoes. |

| তার বন্ধুদের টাকা ছিল | His friends had money. |
| তার বন্ধুদের টাকা ছিল না | His friends didn’t have money. |
