New Verbs in Use
In order to create meaningful discourse using the new vocabulary, study the following verbs and notes about vocabulary.
Adverb "Still" مازال
In formal Arabic, the adverb “still” (as in “are you still studying Arabic?”) is expressed by the verb مازال, which must be conjugated for person. It sounds like past tense, but it actually gives the meaning of continuity when followed by the present tense or an adjective. Study the following chart:

Transitive and Intransitive انتهى
The verb انتهى can have two versions: transitive and intransitive. For example:
The intransitive one: انتهى - ينتهي - نهاية as in:
- الفيلم انتهى The movie ended.
- الحرب انتهت The war ended.
The transitive one: انتهى من - ينتهي من - الانتهاء من as in:
- انتهيت من الواجب I finished the homework.
- انتهت أمي من العمل My mother finished her work.
This verb is most closely translated to “I am done with” and it is always followed by the preposition مِن .
