Selamat datang! Welcome to our Advanced Indonesian OER textbook.
In response to the lack of advanced Indonesian instructional materials, our lessons aim to elevate learners’ language skills to an advanced-mid to advanced-high level, aligning with ACTFL proficiency guidelines. The lessons in this textbook address the dearth of advanced Indonesian language resources by delving into current topics and events related to gender, lifestyle, human rights, environment, economy, and language preservation. We utilize authentic materials sourced from online newspapers, editorials, blogs, vlogs, journals, and YouTube, ensuring that learners engage with real-world language contexts.
Our primary users are expected to have achieved ACTFL intermediate-high to advanced-low proficiency in the Indonesian language before using these materials. The lessons also serve as valuable resources for Indonesian language teachers aiming to enhance their instructional methods.
The lessons in this textbook employ proficiency, communicative, and content-based approaches, involving all language skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The lessons emphasize the practical use of language in real-life situations, focus on fostering communication and interaction, and integrate language learning with the exploration of relevant topics. Our lessons encompass interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes, allowing learners to comprehend, interact, and express themselves effectively in Indonesian.
We express gratitude to the Michigan State Asian Studies Center, who supports this project in developing and advancing Indonesian language instruction with the funding from the Department of Education Title VI grant.
